At Reliance’s 42nd Annual General Meeting (AGM), it announced that its optical fibre-based fixed-line broadband service, JioFiber, will be launching on September 5. A much talked about feature of Jiofibre which will be available to premium customers is access to a brand new OTT platform by Jio, called ‘Jio First Day First Show’. The platform, which will be launched in 2020, will allow users to watch the movies on the day of the release. Apart from this, Reliance is also planning to foray into a variety of other services as well.

At the AGM, Chairman Mukesh Ambani announced that over the next year, Reliance will be building one of the biggest blockchain networks in the country. He said, “Using Blockchain, we can deliver unprecedented security, trust, automation, and efficiency to almost any type of transaction. And using Blockchain, we also have an opportunity to invent a brand-new model for data privacy where Indian data, especially customer data is owned and controlled through technology by the Indian people and not by corporates, especially global corporations.” He also added, “Data is wealth and Indian wealth must remain in India,”.

Reliance is also launching Jio Holoboard, mixed reality (VR+AR) applications, and a gaming set-up box. A new MR headset called ‘Holoboard’ was revealed. This has been developed in collaboration with a MR startup, Tesseract. Holoboard is said to be highly useful for educational, entertainment and shopping purposes. The launch date for its pan-India Narrowband Internet of Things (NBIoT) platform. The IoT platform will be commercially available starting January 1, 2020.

Relaince has also announced a decade long partnership with Microsoft to offer cloud services. The corporate has additionally introduced to loose cloud products and services for tech startups, in partnership with Microsoft. “This will take away the cost of cloud and connectivity infrastructures, which is the 80% cost of running a startup. The services will be free for budding startups. The startups will just have to register for their ‘custom design packages’ on before Jan 1, 2020,” Ambani added
