The country’s leading digital payment platform, Paytm, has announced its expansion into the online content space. It is gearing up to launch a platform that will provide news, short videos, live television, and other content by September this year. Their target is to double their monthly active user base to 250 million users.

“We are already seeing 27 million monthly active users on Paytm Inbox. Now that we are upgrading it to the next level with innovative use of content, we hope to get around 60-70 million new users,” said Deepak Abbot, senior vice-president, Paytm.

The company is also relying on help from smartphone companies it has struck deals with in the past to help expand its user base. Abbot said, “We have also undertaken deals with smartphone manufacturers like Oppo, Vivo and Xiaomi where users will get the Paytm application in-built.”

Apart from these services, Paytm is also planning to add more options to make payments to government agencies. The company plans to offer modes for paying municipal taxes, traffic fines, etc. soon
